Paul Dorpat, Wallingford’s official unofficial historian is at it again. This time, he worked with Ron Edge to scan in a huge map of Seattle from 1912, breaking it down into individual PDFs for careful viewing. What’s amazing to us is how much the basic layout and grid of the city was already well established by that time (we’d always thought of Seattle as “newer” than that), but it’s also fun to see how street names and such have changed.
Take a look at the story with links to the full map on Paul’s web site.
So awesome. Thanks for posting!
These are great! Thanks Pat!
Our lot shows a structure marked on it . . . but county records show that my house wasn’t constructed until four years later.
Given the state of construction flux in the city at the time, I wonder what the conditions truly were at the time…plans only?
Maggie, oddly, our lot DOESN’T show a structure on it on the map, but our records say the house was constructed in 1905. Puzzles.
We are baffled as well. Some city records say our house was built in 1909, others 1914. This map shows no structure on our lot, so I’m inclined to go with 1914. We also have a clawfoot tub that’s stamped as 1914, though understandably, it might have been added at that time.
