Closet getting full with Halloween costumes that are either too small or too big? Perhaps you’re just too tired of being a “sexy cat” year after year?
Well, we know it’s slightly beyond the neighborhood, but this is definitely worth mentioning: in the spirit of promoting a Green Halloween , beginning this Friday, October 1, Whole Foods will be collecting gently used Halloween costumes for the National Costume Swap Day in exchange for a ticket to pick out a “new-to-you” costume at their Green Halloween Costume Swap on October 9, 12 pm – 3 pm. One tickets will be distributed for every costume donated and/or five accessories donated.
Green Halloween®, a Seattle-based organization, is motivating parents to not only be green but also save some green ($$), by encouraging self-made costumes out of recycled goods and handing out healthier snacks and treats.
Last year my son and I made a Recycle Robot costume. It was not only fun to do as an activity, it was also extremely cheap. The costume was made out of a recycled box and random household items and was a big hit among the preschool crowd! My son still wears it around the house.
I am writing as a vintage costume maker of many years and wanted to compliment the creators of that awesome fabulous completely incredible robot Halloween and everyday costume. It is the best one I have ever seen. Perhaps there could be an ensemble of these in next year’s Kiddies Parade?
Shannon, Was that your son that made the Robot? I love it ! My son and I made something similar. It is also our company that makes the hat. It would be fun to include your son’s photo on the hangtag of the hat to encourage others to do the same. Let me know if he would be willing? Thanks, Kevin
