An anonymous Wallyhood tipster sent this advice for discouraging those around the neighborhood with an underdeveloped sense of respect for other people’s personal property:
The first Police Notes item in today’s the Herald-Outlook concerns a ladder that was left outside and then used by criminals to climb in an open 2nd story window at a nearby home.
Folks, please, please put your ladders away inside your basement or garage at the end of the workday. If you can’t do that, then use a heavy chain lock to attach it to a fence or something else that is sturdy. Think how bad you would feel if your neighbor’s home was burgled because you were too lazy to put away a ladder.
Good point! A ladder, after all, pretty much asks someone to climb up it.

I think better advice might be to not leave your windows open.
I have to second bmacke on this one. It’s not really the fault of the owner of the ladder. It’s probably the fault of the person who left their windows open!
