The Wayward Music Series announces six graphical scores by John Teske to be performed Thursday night, September 16th, at the Good Shepherd Center.
Graphical music scores?
John Teske describes his compositions as follows:
These scores are based on the idea of sound coming in and out of focus. The graphic notation provides the architecture of the piece, leaving the note-to-note details to be uniquely expressed through improvisation. Each score will be performed twice by ensembles of Seattle instrumentalists and vocalists, to explore different interpretations of the same forms.
The musician in me was intrigued. I studied classical piano briefly in college, and have some orchestra performance experience, so I was glad to have the chance to read the musical score available online here. But wow — I am so out of my league! This isn’t baroque music, that’s for sure! Now I’m really intrigued!
- When: 8pm, Thursday 9/16
- Where: Chapel Performance Space. Good Shepherd Center, 4th floor. 4649 Sunnyside Ave N
- Cost: $5- $15, sliding scale. All ages welcome!

Chris,
What instrument did you play in orchestra? I have always wanted to make a BIG BAND for the Kiddies Parade, all acoustic instruments welcome, playing and playing and playing You Are My Sunshine in the people’s key of G. (My orchestra instrument of geek was the violin, though I have picked up a few more along the way.) I hope you played trumpet . . .
One practice 10 minutes before the parade starts, 2011 . . .
Hi, Nancy! I played Bass Clarinet & Tenor sax. One year they put me on marimba (loved it!). Closest I’ve got now is a kazoo, tho!
@Chris W: You passed the audition with flying colors! This will be FUN! Calling all present and former school orchestra and band players and enthusiasts. . .
