Many Seattleites will have Seafair on the brain this weekend as the Blue Angels buzz overhead. But for those of us seeking other flights of fancy, here are some fun-filled alternatives in Wallingford (and beyond):
Carjacked: The Culture of the Automobile and its Effect on Our Lives
Friday, August 6, 2010, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
Bertha Landes Knight Room, City Hall, 600 Fourth Avenue, Seattle
With Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies on a brief hiatus, I thought it’d be worth mentioning an interesting lecture in its stead. You might want to consider alternative transportation, though, since it’s downtown, and the Carjacked authors will be presenting their research on the complex impact of the automobile on modern society and discuss how to develop a healthier, cheaper, and greener relationship with cars.
City Cellars “Drop In” Wine Tasting
This Friday, City Cellars will be pouring some of their new arrivals from 5-7 p.m. Tastings include a flight of up to three wines and are $3-5 (refundable with wine purchase).
Wide World Books and Maps Monthly Gathering of Travelers
Saturday, August 7, from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
It’s the first Saturday of the month, which means Wide World Books and Maps is holding it’s informal gathering of travelers. Come learn from other travelers’ experiences and share your own wisdom you’ve learned on the road.
Joule’s Urban BBQ 2010
Sunday, August 8, from 3 – 9 p.m.
This week, you’ll have to practice pronouncing Phuket correctly (it’s Poo-ket!) as Joule takes diners to Thailand. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for kids, and are good for your choice of hot dishes and a picnic table filled with a selection of cold dishes, non-alcoholic drinks, and desserts.
