Last month, we found Wallingford Art Walk to be something of a disappointment. We were not alone.
Not to say there weren’t some fine artists on display, good music to be had and the requisite nibbles and wine, but what was disappointing was the number of businesses that had signed up, but failed to actually book an artist and participate. We hope this month will be better.
We’ll tell you what we know of, so, should you decide to venture out, you’ll at least know some of what is scheduled:
- Oasis Gallery (3644 Wallingford Ave) is opening a new show, Undertones, featuring local artists Bruce Falzarano, Francesca Campbell Hulick, Nancy Merrill, Rob Mitchell , Peggy O’Heron , Scott Cahill Rude. See flier at right.
- Daylily & The Pilot Lights, a three piece Indie-Rock band, will be performing in front of Wallingford Center: “Our core is acoustic guitar, bass and drums, with piano on some songs. Other instruments range from the melodica to the electric guitar….. Daylily and the Pilot Lights is Nikki McThewson, William Mapp, and Morgan Kluck.”
- Cutz Meridian (4515 Meridian Ave N) will be featuring an all Native American art show, including Andrew Goyesun Morrison.
- Cafe Appassionata (1218 North 45th) is showing the work of Tamara Nelson.
- Not a Number (1905 N 45th St) is featuring the work of Kelly Lyons.
- Oom Yung Doe (44th and Stone) is displaying the art of Green Roots Photography local nature photography, including photos taken in gardens in the Wallingford neighborhood (below).
- Amy Wells‘ office (4426 Burke Ave N) has the watercolors of massage therapist and artist Cinny Burrell (and usually has good eats!)
And that’s what we know. In the past, Trophy Cupcakes (in Wallingford Center) has always had a show (along with mini-cupcakes and lemonade), as has ReLeaf Massage (1429 N 45th St).
Feel free to add what we’re missing, and see you out there!

Oom Yung Doe ( 44th and Stone, http://www.oomyungdoe-nw.com/schools/wallingford/ ) is displaying the art of Green Roots Photography ( http://greenrootsphoto.com ) – lots of local nature photography, including photos taken in gardens in the Wallingford neighborhood.
I appreciate the ink, Wallyhood, as one of the artists in the Oasis show
The wink-wink-have-some-wine is no more at these events . . . always the
State Liquor Board’s rules have required that alcohol be served only to individually
invited guests, not at publicly advertised events, and enforcement is currently extending to all events in Seattle, and especially the Wallingford Art Walk. (I learned these ropes working at a gallery when I first got here from a western state south of here where one can buy tequila in the grocery store 24 hours a day and alcohol may be served at art receptions.) If venues want to send out individual invitations, guests must bring the invite with them and the event isn’t open to the walk-by public. Welcome to Washington State.
So, party on at the various watering holes in the ‘hood, truly spreading the
business around, consider taking the bus and have a time. And ask not what
your really local gallery can do for you, ask what you can do for your really
local gallery . . .
The Varsity Inn down at 34th & Wallingford may not be on the walk, but last time I were there, they had some GORGEOUS photography lining the walls around the booths. I know there were trying to get on the art walk but I don’t know if they made it. Solsticio at Stone Way & 34th, which is technically in Fremont, but just barey – also has some pretty cool art on the walls too. Just for you Lower Wallingford folks out there. 🙂 Varsity Inn is open late, Solsticio closes at 6 PM.
Seattle Mosaic Arts (1325 North 46th St.–next to the Boys & Girls Club on 46th) will have the opening of Adi Braun’s work in our studio gallery. Adi is a really talented mosaicist–come check out her work, and see what else is going on at the studio.
Each month we feature a different artist on our gallery wall and the opening of the show occurs during Wallingford Art Walk, which means that every Art Walk you’ll find a different artist featured.
You can also try out your own hand at mosaics by working on the “Art Walk” sign project we put out each first Wednesday.
Come on by!
