Seems like the old saying is true. It ain’t summer in Seattle ’til after the 4th. So as our long-lost friend finally makes its way back into town, you might want to check out some of the local happenings and get your summer started – at last.
Still got World Cup Fever? It’s down to the final four so if you want to check out the action with other football fans, you can head over to one of these pubs. George and the Dragon (Fremont), The Kangaroo and Kiwi Pub (Green Lake), Kell’s (Pike Place Market), Cafe Presse (Cap Hill). Or if you’ll be in the hood, Murphy’s and the Iron Bull are good bets.
If you haven’t gotten your fill of international sports, you can also check out the latest coverage of the Tour de France. It’s Stage 3 today, and after all the crashes from yesterday, let’s hope the riders get past the cobblestone, injury-free. You can watch all your favorites – Lance, Contador, the Schlecks, Cancellara, and local hero, Farrar – at Murphy’s and Cafe Presse. Sadly, American hopeful Vande Velde is already out after yesterday’s crash.
Speaking of soccer (better known as futbol), if you have kiddos and want to get them in the game, the Woodland Soccer Club might still have some spaces for its Fall League. http://www.woodlandsoccer.org/.
And if sports isn’t your thing, check out some of the great local theater productions. Taproot Theater presents “Man of La Mancha” from July 7th to August 7th. This Tony award winning musical has it all – Spanish literature, madness, music! And there’s a pay what you can performance on July 14th.
And if Don Quixote doesn’t do it for you, perhaps the Blue Moon Cabaret at El Gaucho’s Pampas Room is what you’re looking for. Tickets start at $40, or you can catch the show, complete with a four-course dinner and a bottle of bubby, for $225. The next show is July 9th with Indigo Blue and Lily Verlaine. And what says summer better than watching movies under the stars at the Fremont Outdoor Movies? Now that you might not get rained on, check out the upcoming line up. Next up is Ghostbusters on July 10th at 7pm.
And if you’re more in the mood for a get together, the Seattle Singles Meetup Group is hosting a potluck picnic at Green Lake this Saturday July 10th at noon. Just bring an ethnic dish to share (homemade or take-out) and join the 112 already confirmed guests. Kids and dogs are welcome.
