Our friends up the street by NE 44th St and 4th Ave NE (just a block off I-5) reported a disturbing burglarly the other day. They were getting ready to leave in the morning and had put a bag into their car and returned into the house to get the kids. As they were gathering their things, they looked out the window as two men on motorcycles pulled up. One hopped off his bike, smashed their car window with a tire iron, grabbed the bag and then rode away before they could as much as shout a protest.
In related news, if for some reason you either enjoy reminding yourself about the steady stream of crime that pervades our society or perhaps doubted that Wallingford is a magnet for car prowlers, the City of Seattle now offers an on-line map of crime around the city, complete with links to the police reports.
Before you get excited that the police reports will finally provide you with the clues you need to crack this case wide open, here’s the material portion of the report from the incident above:
Offense : #1 2305 – 0 THEFT-CARPROWL – COMPLETED
Location : STREET/HIGHWAY/ROAD/ALLEY/SIDEWALKOffense : #2 2903 – 0 PROPERTY DAMAGE-NON RESIDENTIA – COMPLETED
Location : STREET/HIGHWAY/ROAD/ALLEY/SIDEWALK
just curious, what kind of bag was it?
Most likely this was the continued work of the meth czar near the corner of Meridian Avenue N and N 50th street (run down white house, with swatches of new paint on it’s front), 4th house on NE side of Meridian if walking towards Tangletown. When I lived near there, they broke into my car 5 times (nothing was in it!), just for fun. Smash and run.
When walking across the intersection of N 51st & Meridian Ave, one of the meth czar’s friends silently followed me. I turned around and he was inches from me then I dove into my car. He disappeared.
One night I followed one of their “rip-off posses’s”. What they regularly do is bring in criminals from other hoods, often arriving in expensive Caddies at night. The caddies drop them off and bands of 3-4 then puruse the hood, looking into every single street parked car. They leave and return @ 3:00am, when they smash & grab those items identified earlier. They are picked up by the same caddie, & vanish. No license plates, no parked get away cars. A drop off and pick up rip off business, very organized.
The meth czar makes @ 30 deliveries per day, to various neighboring schools. He drives various cars (stolen I am sure) and has criminal friends helping him. Small drug deliveries all day, everyday. The single parent (mother) who hosts this felon looks the other way. She works at Subway sandwich yet mysteriously has enough money to pay bills, host numerous new cars & recently, build a brand new garage in the backyard, to shelter her eldest son’s vintage car, while he is in prison for life, for various charges. The house is paid for and owned by an offshore person in another country. The meth czar is armed as are all his buds. Stolen guns.
That report is better than mine- had my car window smashed, reported it 6 months ago, and it doesn’t show up on the map even when I change the date range to include it…
Anne:
It sounds like I know the folks you are talking about. For a couple of years the Seattle Housing Authority apartment across my street was another one of their hang-0uts. I was told by the undercover cop who was dealing with the situation that two of the kids who hung out there where dealing the meth also lived in the neighborhood (and where involved with a shooting on the Ave). They are from Egypt.
At the time, they were also dealing out of the Subway and Quizno’s (not anymore). It was pretty scary. I used to see folks going in and out at all hours with guns and there were also people coming and going at all hours (in particular, one of the two kids I mentioned above on one of those not-street-legal little motorcycles that was louder than hell).
It was horrible to have to live in the constant fear of what could happen and the fights and the crack heads coming and going. Fortunately, the whole lot where evicted a couple years ago and things have really settled down.
I’m sure the cops know about what is going on and they are watching the situation until they can come in and get them out.
