We’ve lived here in Wallingford for 17 years now, and this is the first time we made it up to the Kiddies Parade. We’d tell you all about it, but a picture is worth a thousand words, and we’ve got a full set of photos from Neil Parekh. If you’re reading in e-mail, you’ll have to click through to view. Everyone else, enjoy!
If you took photos to share, please leave a link in the comments!
Thanks for posting the pictures. I have more from each of the different groups in the parade in the full set of 181 pictures. I’d be happy to send anyone a high resolution version of a picture if you want it. This one’s on me.
Missed the parade this year…but got to “see” it through these photos. Thanks Neil!!
My daughter is the girl doing the back-bend. She was with the Seattle SANCA Paraders. SANCA = School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts. Thanks for posting, Neil — great pictures.
I love that Wallingford has its own Seafair event and really enjoyed the little festival as well. Thanks to all those who put in time and energy to make it happen.
However, I REALLY hated seeing the poor ponies out there in this heat. In the time I was watching, no one offered them water and only one child was riding. My kids took one look at them and said that they looked “sad.” They didn’t ask to ride.
I would like to put it out there that perhaps asking little ponies to carry children around in circles in the middle summer is unkind, and that we as a neighborhood can do better. I think any kind of water play would be a big hit. I know that there are inflatables that can be turned into water slides, dunk tanks, water ballon tosses, etc.
Thank you, Neil, for great shots. You also filled in beginnings I hated missing. I planned to miss all today, working on Saturday sanding of Important Stuff, finally in cooler weather… but when the second or third set of drums reached my ears I became a parade zombie. So the pics I took start maybe midway, with Little Dangerettes, and ends with a fast trot past Seafair Clowns behind the scenes and the ending high school band practicing in front of Quiznos (sorry, don’t know who — in green and white): http://www.flickr.com/photos/18783310@N00/sets/72157624343932651/
kimberly, those are great ideas. A couple were tossed around, but not executed by any group. Please contact Wallingford Neighborhood Office if you are interested in helping out with this event in 2011- we would LOVE to add some of those ideas and strive to make it something the neighborhood enjoys and looks forward to. To anyone interested in helping out with this event or any of the events hosted by the Neighborhood Office- please stop in. It is alot of fun!
Thanks for posting the photos! What a great day. AND thanks to all of those volunteers that put this event on.
Thanks so much for the pictures — they’re great! We had to miss the parade this year, but hopefully we’ll be able to make it next year.
