We really enjoy writing this blog. We wouldn’t bother with it if we didn’t. Still, it is a lot of work to keep up and can be frustrating and discouraging at times, so it’s nice to hear good things back from readers. In particular, one long time reader recently moved away to another neighborhood and dropped us a note that we thought we’d share:
We’re settling in to our new home in <redacted>. I’ve been reading <our new neighborhood blog> regularly for a few weeks. It provides an obviously useful community service, but it’s really a pale, bloodless affair compared with Wallyhood. They keep a pretty professional tone and project very little personality into the articles. It feels like something “about” rather than “of” if you know what I mean.
All of which is to say that it makes me admire your writing and your work on the blog more than ever. I think you and the stable of neighbors (neighble?) you’ve recruited have made something really special and I’m sorry we’re no longer sharing turf with you.
Keep up the good work. You’ve got a little lightning in that bottle.
Lightning in a bottle. What a great phrase.
Which brings us around to real point of this post, which wasn’t to pat ourselves on the back, but rather to say that if you live in Wallingford, enjoy phrases like “lightning in a bottle”, and want to contribute to a growing community-building institution in your neighborhood, drop us a line. We’re always looking for more writers, because more writers mean more eyes, more ears and more perspectives, which makes this Wallyhood thing all the more healthy and useful.
E-mail us at [email protected] to ask how it all works.
I would like you to know that as someone who has just moved into the neighborhood this blog has been a wonderful guide and introduction to Wallingford. I check it daily to see what more I can learn about this lovely part of Seattle & I’ve learned a lot that excites me to be living here. Thanks for what you do & I’d love to contribute once I feel more at home here.
Nancy Merrill would like to personally welcome Merrill to Wallyford. It’s all in a name.
Thank you very much. 🙂
Wallyhood, you rock! Have lived in the “hood for 10+ years and learn something new everyday reading your blog. I don’t bother with the other neighborhood blogs – everything I need is right here. Please keep up the good work!
I’ve lived in Wallingford for over 25 years. I’ve always loved living here, but reading this blog makes me feel connected to the community in a way I never did before. Thank you!
