Seventeen years we’ve lived in Wallingford, and the first time we stepped through the door at Leny’s Tavern was (oh, the shame) this past Tuesday.
We were not disappointed: a fine selection of beer (available in pints or, for the unusually thirsty, liters), two pool tables, an excited buzz of activity, decent lighting and an exceptionally appealing bar menu.
And the people? Well, let us tell you about the people. They’re so kind they’re holding a barbeque this Saturday, July 24th from 1 – 4 pm (beer garden until 9 pm) as a fundraiser for our favorite Wallingford-based do-gooders and food bank, Familyworks. On the menu: pork shoulder, beef brisket, salmon, potato salad, cole slaw, corn muffins and beer. (We were told they had a whole roasted pig last year, but it turns out that the phrase “pig roast” is more appetizing than an actual sow turning on a spit, so they decided to go with pork shoulder this year.)
They’ve got the outdoor lot next door fenced off, so folks can enjoy the sunshine and word is there will be some local bands and maybe a DJ. $12 in advance / $15 at door.
Dig on swine.
