Well, it sounds like that “HVAC work” that supposedly caused Babalu to close suddenly has been resolved, and the bar is set to re-open. According to the My Wallingford blog, Babalu has managed to get its liquor license back, despite having operated for almost a month without one. While he couldn’t get the cabaret / nightclub license (too small), he has managed to convince the liquor license review panel that he’ll be adding more than $99 TV dinners to the menu.
While Wallyhood commenters are full of stories of overserved Babalu patrons tumbling into the streets, the five person panel decided to give Babalu the thumbs up. According to the SeattleCrime blog, City Attorney Pete Holmes’ spokeswoman Kimberly Mills felt “the city doesn’t consider Babalu to be a public nuisance or public safety issue.”
See the beginning of this story back in March 2009 and other recent stories on this storied bar on the Babalu Wallyhood page.
Bet they don’t last a month! Must being paying off someone! Place is a nightmare. Who ever paid $99.00 for a TV dinner, how about .99 cents?
Wallyhood, could you suggest where we might direct complaints? It’s such a great spot, and there could be something really cool there!
Janey. complaints probably need to go to the owner &/or the city, depending on the problem. suggestions for a better tenant in that prominent location could be directed to the landlord. It’s my understanding the property is owned by Babalu owner’s Mom who may just be a few bricks short of a load, so good luck with that one…
I disagree! We may not have shootings and fights on a regular bases but I have seen my fare share of fights and obnoxious behavior outside Babalu. I dont agree with his business practices and don’t believe they do ANYTHING for our neighborhood. Well, Babalu’s guests might be helping the business of Salinas and the Taco bus down the street but thats it. HVAC my A**! There was a similar note on the door when he was having hardship with Wonderbar.
Lots of complaining, how is the action? Does anyone have anything good to say about this place??
The more I read peoples comments on this blog, the clearer it becomes to me that most people who post seem to hold very similar points of view. Are they (we) a true representation of Wallingford residents?
