Encountered recently – I couldn’t make any of this up:
- In the Starbucks on 45th Street a woman came in saying she lived a couple of blocks away and that her car had just been stolen but she needed a cup of coffee first before dealing with the police
- A group of 4 people were spotted walking down Meridian Ave. N. with a pig on a leash
- Outside the Wallingford Center, a drunk man sitting on a bench was clutching a huge ‘80’s style boom box blasting out Elton John’s “Rocket Man” (“and I’m high as a kite right now . . .” yeah, bet you are)
- Late at night, a woman with her hair full of empty Diet Coke cans as curlers was shopping in QFC

I saw Coke Can Hair Lady at Bartell’s – she gets around. and last night, a man stopped me in front of the Wally Neighborhood office to ask if I’d like a “fresh strawberry,” presumably from the market. I think he was offended when I said no thank you.
If you’re reading, strawberry man, no offense meant, sir – my momma just raised me not to take food from strangers. Even nice ones from the ‘hood!
Love this new segment. Hope to see it often.
You could also do “Overheard in Wallingford” where people submit different “overheard” conversations from the neighborhood. That’d be fun.
God, I love our neighborhood! 🙂
I’ve seen the pig-walkers on a couple of occasions. As far as I’m concerned, as long as they scoop the poop, I’m delighted to share the sidewalks with them. Viva le swine!
(Though our neighborhood cat seemed poleaxed over the pig — not sure what sort of reaction was appropriate.)
