It’s Wednesday, which means it’s Wallingford Farmers Market day at Wallingford Center.
If you can get there by 4 pm, you can catch Chef Colin Patterson of Wallingford’s Sutra performing a cooking demonstration (see our review of Sutra here, when they featured Wallyhood honey on their menu). We know the folks at Sutra worship local ingredients, so Colin should be especially good inspiration for your trip to the market.
We’re getting deeper into the season, so we should start seeing many more fresh veggies. Here’s the rundown from the market PR team:
Raspberries are now available at all markets, from Alm Hill Gardens or Hayton. Pipitone has apricots … and Tiny’s has apriums … You will also find cucumbers at all markets from Alm Hill or Alvarez. How about tomatoes from Billy’s and fresh mozzerella from Golden Glen Creamery … Olsen Farms now offers beef, pork and lamb.
You can get all fancy as you want with your cooking, but for our money, you take some fresh tomatoes, slice them over fresh mozzarella, drizzled on some really good olive oil, sprinkle on a bit of chopped basil and a pinch of salt and you’re done. Roll it up and go home because that’s all you need.
