Reminder, tonight is Spoke and Food, a dining and biking event.
The premise is cunning in its simplicity. You bike to one of the 14 participating Seattle restaurants (in Wallingford, that’s the Blue Star and Cantinetta, but there are more in easy biking distance), you buy a meal, you eat it and then you bike home*. The restaurant, meanwhile, will donate a percentage of their evening’s take to Lettuce Link, a program of the (Wallingford-based) Solid Ground that helps get fresh, healthy produce to low-income Seattleites through a variety of programs, including a community tree harvest.
This is Spoke and Food’s first year, and its success could determine whether there is a second year. We notice that the “sponsors” page on the web site has a solicitation, but no sponsors, and the restaurants list page still says “more to come…” With the event going on this evening, hoping for more this year is probably a stretch, but we do hope for more next year.
To help make sure it survives, please be sure to notify your waitstaff that you’ve come for the Spoke and Food event, so they see the value of the connection (and hey, mention you saw it on Wallyhood while you’re at it!)
* You are not required to go home. You could bike over to Gas Works and sit on the hill after dinner, or bike up to the Pour House and enjoy a cocktail. There are no rules.
Please tell us thi sin advance. I sit here, eating spaghetti.
I am not about to Spoke – it anywhere. I would have with more notice.
What fun, should have it several times a month!!! Bike to the Varsity Restaurant now serving authentic Mexican fair for dinner at reasonable prices. No, I’m not getting paid for advertising. Lots of great places to eat, not to mention a picnic at the park!!!!!
More notice would have been better, lets get this out to the folks.
