Both the Rock and Roll Marathon and the Mountains to Sound Relay Race are coming to Wallingford this weekend. That means a couple of things:
1. Traffic may very well be snarly on Saturday! (Rock and Roll Marathon).
But there will be a band at every mile – so you can head on out to cheer and hear some music, all at the same time! The Whole Bolivian Army will be at mile 18 (36th and Aurora).
The Rock and Roll Marathon is in its second year, and while the folks running the half won’t quite get to our neighborhood – those running the entire 26.2 will. They’ll be running along Aurora Avenue, up as far as the intersection of 39th, and Aurora will be closed to traffic for the duration of the race. Plan accordingly!
2. The Burke Gilman and Gas Works Park well be busier than normal on Sunday (Mountains to Sound).
The Mountains to Sound Relay race starts atop Snoqualmie pass. A mountain biker hits the trails for about 17 miles, and hands off to a road cyclist who carries the team into Redmond. Next up is the kayak section – 12 miles down the slough to Log Boom Park. Shortly thereafter, the runners take over – 13.1 miles right in to Gas Works Park (where you can see the handoff!) and the final runner finishes the event by dashing to Golden Gardens.
