Here’s the mystery: heckling movies in a movie theater: bad. Heckling movies as the premise of a TV show: awesome.
And there’s the puzzle of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (or MSTK3, as it is known to its hard-core fans): why is it so amusing to watch bad movies and hear them mocked?
Well, you’ve got the opportunity to find out this Thursday, June 10th at 7 pm at (Wallyhood sponsor) Scarecrow Video, just a few blocks away in the University District (5030 Roosevelt Way NE) at the in-store appearance and DVD signing:
The people who brought you Mystery Science Theater 3000 have created a whole new movie-riffing experience: Cinematic Titanic. Scarecrow Video is honored to once again host the cast for a meet & greet and DVD signing on Thursday, June 10th at 7pm.
Cinematic Titanic was created by Joel Hodgson, creator and star of MST3K (as it’s known to it’s devoted fans) and features the writing and performing talents of the show’s original cast – Joel Hodgson (Joel Robinson), Trace Beaulieu (Crow, Dr. Forrester) and J. Elvis Weinstein (Tom Servo, Dr. Ehrhardt) along with longtime writers and co-stars from the show’s 10 year run, Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank) and Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester).
The group is in town for two performances Friday night at the Showbox in the Market downtown.
Woo! I have my tickets. Also, their (new) version of “Santa Claus vs. the Martians” makes for a great, new Christmas Eve tradition.
I agree with Rob — I have both the MST3K and Cinematic Titanic versions of SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANs. Both are great.
And now, I cannot emotionally experience the joyous holiday season without them.
D’oh! CONQUERS the Martians. I always get that wrong.
The best part is the open credits song. Skip ahead to 6:20…

Hmmm…ok, how about this one:
Part 1
I saw CT the last time they came and it was amazing. I’ve got my tickets for this time around as well. I’ve been a fan since the early 90s and can’t wait to stand in line to meet the guys.
