This seems like a perfect match for Wallingford – and features a terrific Wallingford restaurant to boot. (It’s our very own Cantinetta – check out the reviews from your Wallingford neighbors!)
Here’s the deal: On June 29, all you have to do is ride your bicycle to dinner! Yep, that’s it!
It’s part of an effort of the folks at Spoke & Food to raise awareness about how easy it is to use your bike to get to and from dinner AND the event will raise money for Lettuce Link, a program of Solid Ground –and also a Wallingford staple!
In addition to promoting the benefits of cycling, Spoke & Food wants to:
- Create an event (hopefully a series of events!) that people can do in their local neighborhood
- Promote a healthy lifestyle
- Show how much fun it can be to ride your bike!
Want to pedal in on the act? You can ask Wallingford restaurants to participate. Otherwise, pump up those tires, mark your calendar and cycle to dinner on June 29th!
So I ride my bike to dinner at this fantastic restaurant, and do what? Am I donating money? Am I getting a discount? I’m all for awareness and community support, but your post seems to be missing a few points. Maybe it’s just too early and I’m missing something.
Agree with Sara– I like the idea, but don’t quite get what Cantinetta is doing to “participate.” If the evening is all about just getting out and riding to dinner, sort of like “bike to work” day, then what difference does it make which restaurant?
So Patrick please complete this line– “On June 29, all you have to do is ride your bicycle to dinner (at Cantinetta) and __________________”
thx. 🙂
So I dug into the Spoke and Food and website and found this (it wasn’t as prominent as it should be though):
” As a participating restaurant, all you will need to do is to commit to donate 15% to 20% of all your dining revenues for the date of Tuesday, June 29th. 100% of these donations will be donated to our charity partner for that given year.”
So it sounds like Cantinetta will donate at least 15% of it’s revenues to the charity that night. That’s great. But it should have been mentioned a bit more prominently. 🙂
Hi all – I’ll send a note to the Spoke and Food folks and let them know that we think the donation message should be more prominent!
