Wednesday is the first Wednesday of the month, meaning it’s time again for Wallingford Art Walk, 6 – 9 pm.
Seattle Mosaic Arts will be holding their first “Members Show” at their studio (1325 46th Ave N), featuring work created at the studio during their first year. The show is up for month of June, so if you can’t make it to the opening, feel stop in and enjoy the art with a cup of coffee.
We’re not sure what else is going on elsewhere, so, instead, we’ll tell you a bit about last month’s art walk:
- Our tip to check out David McCrae’s work at Amy Wells’ office was spot-on (in our humble opinion). The work was beautiful, and the place was jam-packed with interesting folks. We got sidetracked in conversation four times before we made it past the first room. The furniture in Amy’s office could have had a show of their own (if memory serves, it was all built by her partner).
- The Wallingford-based jam band Sunnyside Daydream offered up a potpourri of jams from Dylan, the Dead, the Beatles, and the like in the pavilion in front of Wallingford Center. We’ll admit it, we saw 77 Dead Shows before Garcia passed away, so it was a bit of heaven. Good, danceable jams. This month, The Easy Street Band will be playing jazz swing.
- We had to make it to Caffe Appassionato to see Kelley Knickerbocker’s mosaic, parly because we knew it would be good, and partly because she’d razzed us in the comments section of our last post. That’s her work off to the right.
We’d love to know what art we should check out. If you have a show, or know of a good one going on during Art Walk, please leave info in the comments section.
Correction: the location of the Seattle Mosaic Arts show was originally listed incorrectly as being held at Mosaic Coffee House. It is not. The corrected location is above.
Hi there-
Actually Seattle Mosaic Arts show is AT Seattle Mosaic Arts–not at Mosaic Coffee House.
Seattle Mosaic Arts is located at 1325 North 46th St.– 2 doors over from Bizzarro’s and next to the Boys & Girls Club.
….and i’m so busy trying to help others with promotion, i nearly forgot to tell Wallyhood:
At Not A Number during the Art Walk, we have local (Wallingford!) author Rita Amer, recently profiled here on Wallyhood, with her older-kids-book, plus some guy named Nick Licata. Yep, it’s THAT Nick Licata, longtime Seattle city councilmember; he wrote a book for older kids too called Princess Bianca & the Vandals. They’re here 6-7:30pm at least during the AW, so c’mon down!
Thanks for the nod, Wallyhood. I encourage everyone to get to the Seattle Mosaic Arts Member Show…they’re doing some good work over there!
I’ll be back at the Caffe App with a new mosaic series for the October Art Walk, and doing a mosaic demo as usual too. Hope to see many of you then.
Kelley K.
