Here are some highlights of last week’s haps beyond Wallingford:
- I can’t help but share two interesting pieces of information from Fremont Universe: First, the building which houses the Dubliner Restaurant and Pub has sold for an impressive $4.05 million. While there is no official word as to the fate of the Irish pub, it was rumored that the apartments above might be converted into a hotel.
- The second piece of news is a bit more bizarre: On Saturday morning, a man armed with a gun hauled a brick through a business window in an attempted burglary. When the police apprehended the suspect, they noted that the gun he was armed with was that of the stapling kind.
- If you happen to pass St. John School up on Phinney Ridge this week, PhinneyWood writes, you might see a herd of goats munching on the weeds and blackberry bushes on school grounds. The goats, their handler, and a sheep dog, all from Rent-A-Ruminant, aim to clear 6,000 square feet in just 3-4 days.
- Our friends over at My Green Lake reposted the P-I’s 1993 piece about the day that Bill Clinton ran the inner loop of the lake, and did so, much to my disbelief, in 22:40.
- The Eastlake Ave blog reports that the owners of the building that had been occupied by Red Robin since 1984 is filing suit against the restaurant chain, claiming failure properly to maintain the building.
- Capitol Hill Seattle Blog posts that Organizers of the Capitol Hill Block Party want to extend their festival from two days to three, but they’re in need of documented community support in order to get a permit from the city for the third day.
- U District Daily reports that the plans to renovate Husky Stadium with the help of taxpayers’ dollars may be dead in the water, leaving UW to come up with alternative fund raising.
