It’s been just under three months since Goldie’s served their last pint, but this Friday, May 28th, The Iron Bull (2121 N. 45th Street) will be opening in its doors.
The new owner, Gerald, has been fielding suggestions in the comments section of our original post here on Wallyhood, so take a look there for info from the Bull’s mouth, but their press release has the quick and dirty:
The bar space has gone through a massive overhaul including reworked floors, the addition of shuffle board, even more HD televisions, two 80” HD projection screens and a brighter atmosphere.
Beyond a full bar, The Iron Bull offers 21 beers on tap ranging from local boutique breweries to domestic and import standards. Kitchen offerings include a range of appetizers like deep-fried cheese curds and hot wings to bigger eats like hamburgers and fish and chips – pub fare stand-bys.
Breathing Life in to an Old Name – The Iron Bull (the original name for the bar before Goldie’s) has gone through a month and a half long remodel. The interior revamp includes … a new shuffleboard table, more seating and more HDTVs. As a sports bar, all available cable sports packages will be available including NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB and MLS… Beyond sports on display, a variety of activities will be available: four pool tables, … dart boards, shuffleboard and a weekly quiz night.
Deep-fried cheese curds, HDTV and cable sports packages. It’s somebody’s idea of heaven, we imagine.
Just in time for the World Cup. I hope they open at 4am so I can watch Algeria v Slovenia.
Sounds pretty good…for a sports bar. I do like shuffle board though, and I assume there’s no TV on the deck, so I’ll check it out!
The exterior is certainly a huge improvement over Goldie’s. I’m not usually a sports bar person, but I’ll definitely come by to check it out!
right on! sounds great and look forward to watching some world cup games there if you open early!
A question for Gerald in case he’s still reading the comments:
Will your menu have any vegan options? I can’t find a website for the Iron Bull to check the menu. Pubs in Seattle generally have great vegan options (Naked City, the Traveler, Blue Star, Brouwer’s, etc) or absosolutely none (George and the Dragon, for example). I generally won’t venture into a pub-type place around dinner time without checking the menu ahead of time.
Hoping you’ll offer some vegan options and I’ll check it out!
My old man almost-native Seattleite remembers hearing about it as The Corroboree from musicians here in the 60s. Folksinger, sailor, etc., Stan James’ place (he died a year ago and Paul Dorpat wrote about him in Now and Then).
(“A dance festival held at night by Australian Aborigines to celebrate tribal victories and similar events; . . . in Australia: a) a large and noisy festivity, b) an uproar or tumult” – the blue dictionary over there.)
Well, I haven’t been there since it was first called the Iron Bull (where I do seem to remember they had some excellent pinball machines), and probably won’t go to the new edition, but I was kind of touched to see that they had gone back to the old name. Trying to remember — did they get that name because they had one of those bull-riding machines? Oh, jeez — who remembers anything from the ’70s?
And, yes — the exterior is a huge improvement!
Sweet! I might check and see if the place is ready on Saturday for Game 1 of the finals.
Hope the Iron Horse has some respect for its neighbors–especially with the outdoor seating area. If it is noisy inside, please keep the back door closed. We will try to stare down any unruly outdoor patroons.
My lease for an apartment next door to this place starts today. It’s almost like sharing a birthday, I feel connected already! I’ve gotta give this place a shot soon.
Like Judy, I’m hoping there isn’t too much noise… but really, dealing with a little late night noise is the expected price to be paid for living near great night life.
Last night folks climbed over the fence of the outdoor seating area and broke the wire. Not a good sign for the future.
Walked in, turned around and walked right back out. Crowd looked a little douchey. I’m new to the neighborhood and find the Grizzled Wizard much more enjoyable.
I was looking forward to the Iron Bull but its looking like its not my kind of joint. Hope they are good neighbors.
Today is our third day being open and the response from the folks in the neighborhood has been great.
We are very aware of the concerns about noise some people have and will do our best to keep it under control.
I agree that if you live in very busy business area you have to expect some noise but I also believe everyone has
the right to sleep when they want.
The deck will be closed late in the evening to make sure your not bothered late at night.
We will not have live music ever. We are way to close the the apartment building across the street for that.
If you have any complaints you can always call the bar – 206-453-3901 – and we will respond quickly.
Bernie and I also own another bar – The Rat and Raven in the u-district – that had a lot of complaints from the neighbors before we
took over the place. We have been open for nearly a year and have never had a complaint from any neighbors.
We plan to run the Iron Bull in the same manner….as good neighbors.
I understand that a lot of people do not like sports bars but I would suggest popping in just to get the feel of the place.
I think you will find it to be clean, friendly and well staffed.
And we do have a few veggie things on the menu. We are having problems with the web page but if you go to theironbull.com without the www you will get there.
My kids dropped by on Friday and said all looked pretty good!
Thanks Gerald!
I live very near by and appreciate your concern… Typically sports bars aren’t my cup of tea, but I am definitely interested in the food you have available.
My dad was reminiscing with me about the old Iron Bull. Sounds like it was quite the place in the 60s and 70s.
I’ll be over in a few weeks. I prefer to let a place settle in for a bit. The exterior is looking mighty sharp though. Any shot at you guys picking up boxing and MMA pay per views?
I live nearby and can attest that Gerald is serious about being a good neighbor.
I just called to have then shut the back door to keep the noise down – the woman who answered the phone was very polite and apologetic and had the door closed within seconds.
This is a welcome change from 6 months ago under the Goldie’s regime, where similar calls were ignored or met with outright rudeness.
Bars can be good neighbors too.
We have been open for a while now and the only valid complaints we have had were the pile of trash in the trash area and some noise complaints when the back door was open.
I finally got the rest of the trash put into the recyle bin and taken away. it was mostly cardboard so presented no health rich but I am glad to be done with it.
When we received noise complaints I quickly had an arm installed on the back door to make sure folks did not forget to close the door when they went out on the deck.
If anyone out there has any complaints or suggestions please feel free to email me at [email protected]
Thanks,
Gerald
We now have trivia every Wednesday night starting at 8PM. It is free and we have plenty of prizes.
We will show all the PPV UFC fights, have the NFL package and the collage football package.
We will likely show whatever game you want to see. Just ask the bartender to put it on one of the many TVs.
