Here’s what’s happening in our neighboring ‘hoods this past week:
- Our neighbors in the U District finally have a new blog of their very own, courtesy of the same Ballard-based Next Door Media company that is behind many “local” blogs north of the ship canal. Since they share articles with each other, you may have already seen some of their work (e.g., 1, 2). Welcome to the local blogging scene, guys.
- Two bodies were found at an Aurora Motel. Police believe it was a murder-suicide.
- Fremont Man, Thomas McGrann, dies at 42 in an accident in California.
- New restaurant opens in downtown Fremont where Taco Del Mar used to be. The Sinbad Express is owned by the same family that owns Aladdin Falafel Corner in the U District.
- On Capitol Hill, the City Council approved the First Hill streetcar to run down Broadway. One pit down, one to go.
- Also on Capitol Hill, see Seattle Daily Show correspondent Lauren Weedman perform her one-woman show at Richard Hugo House through May 8th.
- Our neighbors are fighting the good fight, too. Ballard resident Mindy Terence is trying to save one of Ballard’s Community Centers. Sign the petition here.
Hi Liz,
Just want to clarify that our petition is seeking to save BOTH of the community centers located in Ballard. There’s one in Ballard Proper (near Market St.) and then there’s one a little more north located in Loyal Heights. They are both vital and necessary. Thanks for giving our efforts a shout-out!
Mindy Terence
Oops, sorry about that. Thanks for clarifying, Mindy. And good luck!
