This month’s Hamilton Construction Update is brought to you in part by the word “accoutrement”, as in: the construction workers at Hamilton are putting in plants, light fixtures and other accoutrement on school grounds. This to me signals the beginning of the end; the light at the end of the tunnel. Hallelujah!
Over the last few days it’s been interesting to watch the installation of plants, trees, and beautiful wrought iron fencing around the perimeter of the school. My only comment is about the new light fixtures lining the front and side walkways–I guess I’m a little skeptical that they’ll fit in with the building’s classic architecture, and how much light they will throw off collectively; but I’ll reserve judgment when everything’s completed in July.
Our friends at BEX provided us with their monthly update, and I’m pleased to share the highlights, in haiku:
Cherry blossoms bloomed
and the gym floor was complete
as sidewalks were poured–
Tulips came and went
and they finished the kitchen
Wainscoting installed–
As the rhodies pop
vinyl flooring is rolled out
doors are hung just right–
Corpse flower opens
readers still debate choice of
single-pane windows

Questions?
Please contact the on-site Hamilton project manager, Michael Romero, at 206.633.1000 or [email protected] at any time if you have any questions or concerns about the project or construction-related activities.
Please note – For safety reasons, visitor access is not permitted on the construction site at this time.
What great form!
This *may* be the first documented use of a hyperlink embedded in a Haiku. Go Wallyhood! Push that envelope!
Great reporting style, and let’s keep a balance of the up, middle and down sides of this change in our ‘hood: Note that the land adjacent north of the Hamilton property is a public park, not school property and Park plants there are being replaced with new ones (reason: so irrigation could be installed ) . . . and that most of the Sister City cherry trees on Densmore were cut down for construction parking. Those lights look like cigarettes and the windows are still single pane. But the project seems to be on schedule, is it on budget?
i know this is still a work in progress but i just wanted to inquire if there has been any discussion about warmer temperature bulbs in the outdoor fixtures? i saw them tested the other night and they look like very cold lights on the kelvin scale (4000k and above)
there is huge debate over the use of these lights in the new seattle street lamps (they make everyone look like vampires) and they are finally coming around to using warmer (3000k and below) bulbs
the energy efficiency and light capability are the same….one looks terrible and will cause an uproar, once looks “normal” and will be met peacefully. i emailed the project manager per margaret’s link. we’ll see what we learn…
Thanks, Reeve. I also put a call into Michael Romero on Friday afternoon (wanted to ask, too, about whether or not the project was still on budget). If he gets back to you first in e-mail, please post what you know. I’ll do the same!
Am I just not looking at the right site? I don’t see a web cam anywhere!
Nicely done. I agree about the light fixtures, which do not seem to meet code. Other words come to mind when I read stuff from BEX:
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Won’t you help to sing
This song of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have:
Redemption song.
