It’s finally time! The Wallingford Farmers Market reopens for their first market of the season tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19 from 3-7 p.m. The market will be set up in the south section of the Wallingford Center parking lot, located at NE 45th and Wallingford Ave. N.
Hope to see you out there, Wallyhooders!
Update! We just heard from Jen over at Izilla Toys that there’s more reason to go to the Market tomorrow:
Many Wallingford Center Merchants are offering a 10% discount tomorrow during Farmer’s Market Hours in honor of the opening of market season. I know that Fabric Crush, Izilla Toys, Crackerjack Crafts, and Paron’s Closet are participating for sure.
On a related note, Izilla Toys is having their first game night at the Wallingford Center tomorrow from 4 – 7 pm. Free pizza, refreshments and games. Good for kids 4 and up.
Do you happen to know if the vendors are cash-only? Hope I can make it home from work in time! (Also excited to wander into the Wallingford Center for the first time in a while. Fabric Crush, here I come.)
Some may take plastic, but most don’t. At least that’s how I remember it.
Avila restaurant will once again be hosting a weekly event we had a lot of fun with last year as Bella Cosa: the weekly Farmers Market Challenge: basically shoppers bring an item or two from the farmers market (this could be anything from a sprig of mint to a lamb leg) and my staff and I will create a 3-course impromptu dinner centered around the ingredient or ingredients–Iron-chef style. It’s a steal at $25/person including two glasses of wine, and a whole lotta fun–sit up at chefs’ table and watch us sweat, we havent been stumped yet!

The Zachary D. Lyons image is a classic. Makes me want to be a bunch of carrots next Halloween.
The Avila idea sounds like lots of fun. We’ll definitely be giving it a try! Too bad the opening day weather was less-than-perfect.
We shopped in a downpour, but it was kind of fun to bundle up the stroller and browse anyway. For anyone who might be wondering, there wasn’t much produce to speak of, but more than I expected — apples, strawberries, potatoes, onions, asparagus, greens, &c. There was bread, cheese/butter, and some prepared foods like pasta and sauces and vinegars. There were caramels and flowers, and the ice cream people were there. Not much else, and there sure weren’t many people there because of the dreadful weather, but all in all it didn’t seem to be a bad start. Cheers!
