A year ago, it was hard to imagine any other retailer in the ol’ Tweedy & Popp space (unless, of course, you lived in Wallingford prior to 1956, when it was the Ernst Hardware Company store, and had been since 1936). But as it sat vacant for months on end, any sign of life was welcome. Back in March, I saw workers rolling out a vinyl sign above the door, and raced home to Google “Domo Home Collections”. The only lead I came up with was a website with a Portland number.
Flash forward to a leisurely stroll last Saturday, when I noticed the lights were on and the space was filled with rugs of every size and color imaginable. I went inside and introduced myself to Al, the store owner, who verified that they owned both the store in Portland and, up until recently, one in Bellevue. Al was happy to be in Wallingford where, he noted, people took painstaking effort to restore some of the most beautiful homes in the area.
In addition to the rug collection, there are small furnishings available for purchase, with more pieces to come. Their hours are from 10-6 Monday through Saturday.
So glad to see the space is now occupied. Welcome to the neighborhood, Domo!
