Tax Season has officially come to a close! Huzzah! Now, get out and do something fun this weekend. Here are some of the cool things happening in Wallingford:
Friday
- Grab yer partner and dosey doe to Hamilton Middle School’s Hoedown and Bluegrass Concert, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Lincoln H.S. gym. Pizza, Vietnamese sandwiches, snacks and beverages will be available for sale. Proceeds benefit the music program at Hamilton. Tickets are $25 for a family, or $10 per person.
- Soak up the state of the seas as Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies presents “The Cove”. Scott West, Tactics Officer of the Sea Shepherd will answer questions and discuss“the latest” on the current situation faced by dolphins and other sea mammals. 7:00-9:00.
- Speaking of movies based on people’s last names, “Greenberg” is still playing at the Guild 45th Theatre, but new this week is “The Joneses,” starring David Duchovny and Demi Moore. As of publishing, we don’t know which movie has been slated for the Guild II (the blue theater, with the crying room), but I’ll update this post on Friday. (Quick update: “Greenberg” has moved to the Guild II, which is actually cool because “The Joneses” are getting lukewarm reviews.)
- If hot ‘n spicy dancing is what you crave, then why not court your cutie with the Columbian Cumbia dance at Selena’s, starting at 9:30.
Saturday
- Operation Beautify Wallingford kicks off at 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. at the Wallingford Center.
- Saxophonist and veteran free improvisor Wally Shoup plays at the Good Shepherd Center, from 8-10 p.m.
- Threat of Beauty plays at Sea Monster, starting at 10 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
Sunday
- GraceFeast continues its weekly communal meal at Gift of Grace Church at 12 noon.
- John Stanford International students perform in the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival at the Seattle Center House, between 12:45 and 1:15 p.m.
- Dine with your dear on a dime. Well, more like $25 per person, but I was on the alliteration kick and couldn’t stop myself. Seattle Restaurant Week kicks-off on Sunday and Wallingford restaurants Avila, Tilth, Joule and Ivar’s Salmon House are participating in the event.
And last, though certainly not least, why not take a moment this weekend to think of a gelato flavor that best represents Wallingford? Your creation just might be the talk of the ‘hood in May!
