Those of you that live in lower Wallingford within five blocks of 37th and Sunnyside, are likely acquainted with a dear feline friend that goes by the name of Bodhi. Now, the name Bodhi means enlightenment, but is more commonly linked to the term awakening.
This cat fits the bill. He is the most zen creature that I have ever encountered. I have had the pleasure of spending some lazy afternoons with him as he parades up and down the sidewalks and pays visits to all that love him- which is just about everyone that has ever met him. We call him flex cat because he has been adopted by a large portion of lower Wallingford, and he never asks for more than a few friendly snugs and maybe some water if he has wandered the full five blocks to reach you. He is loyal, loving, and calm; some of man’s favorite qualities in a pet.
Bodhi disappeared this passed Friday afternoon and his absence is deeply felt. Bodhi is 8 years old, about 12lbs, male, and very eager to be petted. He wears a red collar with a tag that has his name and number. This wandering feline has been lost before, so we are hopeful that he is just on a spring break of sorts. But if you have seen him or know anyone that has, the folks in lower Wallingford would love to have him back so that he can roll around in the lawns and lounge on the porches of his little Kingdom in the lower hood.
Thanks so much for lovely article about Bodhi. I just wanted to make sure anyone reading this understands that Bodhi does actually have a home, with a caretaker who feeds him well, takes him to the vet and all around loves the crap out of him.
I have tried desperately to keep him inside but he was already addicted to the great outdoors when I adopted him so forciing him to stay inside has proven to make us both miserable.
Also, wandering from home is NOT something he does regularly. He sticks close to his ‘hood and ALWAYS returns home, his whereabouts can be accounted for almost 24/7. So for him to be missing for more than a day is truly cause for concern and not just ‘Bodhi gone on a walkabout’.
He is lost, hurt, or god forbid, meowing with the angels, but regardless he won’t find his way home on his home so PLEASE give a shout if you have any information at all.
Also, he is microchipped, and collared with an id tag.
Thank you so much
Ann
Good luck, Ann! I’ll keep my eyes open down here in the lower part of the ‘hood!
We hope he finds his way soon, Ann. BTW, you might want to check-in with Robert or Amy at the Robert W. Hass salon on the corner of 37th and Wallingford. They’re at the salon all the time and even if they haven’t seen him, they can keep their eyes peeled.
Ann, I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to put all your info up here, so I just generalized it. I know he doesn’t leave home often, but was attempting to give it more of an optimistic tone since his brief “vacation” last year around this time. We are all on the look out!
That was me up there, forgot to put my name in!

Kendall-
I totally appreciate the optimism and SO appreciate that you wrote this piece. I just wanted to make sure people didn’t read this and think, oh he does this all the time and he’ll be back, no need to worry.
Was about this time last year he went missing and showed up 6/10 of a mile from home in the U-District, on the other side of that horrible intersection of 7th Ave NE/NE 40th St/NE Pacific St – a miracle he made it that far with just a few scratches to show for it. The theory on that disappearance is that he got into a fight (or more appropriately was attacked – he’s a lover not a fighter) and ran and when he finally stopped running he was hopelessly lost and just wandered until somebody picked him up.
I don’t mind giving details since I have plastered his likeness and my phone number all over the place anyway. 206-805-9182 if you have any information.
thanks to all

I’ve live on Sunnyside, on the Quinzo’s side of 45th, and have noticed Bodhi hanging out and coming up to my door in the past few weeks. I know it was Bodhi, since he was so friendly and actually came into my house, I checked his tag and saw he lived in the ‘hood.
He sure is a sweet boy. The first time I saw him there was a young woman who was hanging out with him as he climbed a tree and walked along a fence. Maybe that was you Ann?
The last time he visited me was on April 8th, I remember it as I had just returned home from the airport with my Mom, and there he was at the door welcoming us.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled for him and do hope he comes back home.
Martha-
Thanks so much for your note. I suspect that it may have been a different cat you met. If you were able to tell from his tag that he was local it probably had an address on it? Bodhi’s tag has only his name and phone number.
He certainely wouldn’t have any reservations about going to into your home, so in that respect it does sound like Bodhi, but I don’t expect that he would wander so far from home on a daily basis, that is pretty far from his familiar territory.
Thanks again for the information, it is good to know there is another friendly feline out there spreading the love.
Ann
Ah, my heart is heavy, I love Bodhi! This Wallingforder is definitely on the lookout for you, Ann, Kendall and the lower ‘hood. I also live on the Quizno’s side of 45th and have had similar run-ins with a VERY friendly Bodhi lookalike, but I her name is actually Maya and she belongs to a couple young women who live next to me. She bolted into my house too, Martha! And a couple mornings ago, as I was loading up my truck for the day, I jumped into the driver’s seat and found her already sitting there! What a bunch of people-adoring felines we have in our ‘hood! Fingers crossed for Bodhi….
Bodhi has been found. He was trapped in a neighborhood house in the final stages of construction. Thanks to an alert neighbor who heard his meowing. Ten days with no food or water, but fortunately he had a little bit of tummy to spare. All is right with the world again down in the lower ‘hood.
Thanks to all for your well wishes and optimism.
Ann
Yea for Bodhi! Yea for you!
Oh, hooray! I don’t live anywhere near you but have been checking back at this site hoping for good news–so glad you have been reunited with your beloved Bodhi.
