Whether you are celebrating Passover, Easter or April coming in like a roaring lion this weekend, I hope you can take time to join the Spokespeople Bike Ride tomorrow between 2:00-4:00 PM. This month’s ride, they are always on the 1st Saturday of the month, is a tour of the Community Preparedness Communication HUBS. If you don’t have time to make the bike loop, take a look at the map and hoof it on over to the nearest hub to pick up some information on the City’s “3 To Get Ready” preparedness challenge.
Communication Hubs are being identified in Wallingford as emergency community gathering sites, to share information and resources across Wallingford, in case a major disaster occurs that makes it impossible to get information and help in the usual ways.
Have you seen what is going on in Haiti and Chile? Our goal is to build individual preparedness capacity, connect block level efforts, and respond as a self reliant community during the period when limited resources may be unavailable. If we can prepare and respond together, ultimately our community will be more resilient and able to recover more quickly.
We want to get the word out about WHERE these hubs are located, the info about the preparedness challenge and to let you know that volunteer staff is needed at all hub Locations:
1 – Wallingford Playfield – Densmore and N 42nd
2 – East Wallingford Hub – Corner of NE 42nd and 4th NE under the arch at JSIS
3 – Meridian/Good Shepherd Center – Park entry at Bagley and 47th near restrooms
4 – MacDonald Playground Structure – Corner of 55th and Latona
5 – Lower Woodland Park – Corner of Stone, Green Lake Way and 50th, parking area near restrooms
6 – BF Day Playfield – North end of Playfield at 41st and Linden
7 – Gasworks Park – Main entrance on Northlake Way, near restrooms.
The next preparedness planning meeting is April 27th, 5:30-7:00 PM, at the Wallingford Community Senior Center. Take the challenge, get prepared, and get involved! For more info see: Hub to Hub Spokespeople Ride Info
