We promised you some time ago that we wouldn’t run regular, breathless stories detailing all the crimes around Wallingford. There’s crime everywhere, and harping on it creates the wrong impression of the neighborhood.
That said, when there’s news, there’s news. Saturday night, Kris wrote:
We saw a white male arrested tonight across the street from our house on 46th and Eastern. Six SPD cars responded to the call. I’m not sure exactly what happened or where it took place, but it sounded like the suspect broke into a house and tried to run away. Does anyone have any more information? […] The police were talking to two or three guys about the burglary. They wanted them to take an inventory to see if anything was stolen. The suspect looked like a normal, middle aged guy. Nice clothes, etc. Weird.
Remember to lock your doors and be safe out there! We are so thankful for SPD. 🙂
My Green Lake (who forwarded us the tip), notes that the Seattle Crime Blog Twitter stream had a related update at that time:
Scanner: Woman comes home to find burglar in the 4500 block 1st ave NE. Police have him at gunpoint about a block away.
Over on the Wallyhood Forums, Gamer Grrl adds this account:
Yes. Seattle Crime says someone surprised a burglar in their house, who then took off. He must have jumped a fence, because about 10:30 last night my neighbor came pounding on my door to say there was a prowler in my backyard, call the police.
Best I can tell, the guy landed in the neighbor’s yard – they happened to have a bunch of friends over and were back there. He jumped the fence and ran into my patio, they followed while someone came to my door. They were chasing him all over the street for about five minutes. I called 911 and talked to the dispatcher about two minutes when she said that another call was coming in, it was done, I could get off the phone.
Roughly 10 minutes later, Seattle Crime sent a tweet (twitter) out saying he had heard police had a suspect at gun point in our block. We assumed that meant he was taken in.
Frankly, I would appreciate regular crime updates, so keep them coming!
