Lots of folks have noticed that there’s been some activity at the old Loki Cafe / Jitterbug / Beeliner Diner space (2114 N 45th Street): new windows going on, clean-up. Could this mean a new restaurant in our midst?
Unfortunately, we have nothing to report. Margaret tried calling Chow Foods, who own the lease, and they wouldn’t comment. Previously, they’ve said that the spot will be used as a “test kitchen and office”, which makes little sense to us, given its prime real estate location.
All we know is what we read in the comments section of a previous post on the space. Worth the read, if you’re into gossip.
Brian R. sent us this fine shot of their stylin’ new windows, at least:
There is a recent permit there, but looks like only to fix up the facade:

Isn’t there also a sign on the window that actually says, “Chow”?
Any idea what’s going on at Walt’s Mufflers? There was a big crew there today painting and stuff. Unfortunately they painted over the Henry mural that was on the east side of the building.
We hear that it’s just going to be the Chow Foods business offices, no restaurant, unfortunately.
I happened to walk by when they were putting windows up, and got a good look inside – the kitchen area was walled off and had desks. Looks like offices to me. Too bad, we were hoping they would bring back the jitterspuds, and my husband still dreams about the gingerbread waffles. Not enough to go to Capitol Hill, tho.
That’s so odd. Here’s the response I got back from the marketing person at Chow:
We’ve just completed the storefront renovation in Wallingford and are
planning a food service facility in the place we have called home on
and off (mostly on) for almost 22 years. We’re not sure yet what our offerings will be, but hope to be up and running sometime in the summer months.
It sure sounds like a restaurant to me.
Sorry for the mulitple posts
