Kate’s is super cheap, but they don’t carry PBR anymore.
Kate’s is the BEST deal in town/Wallingford for sure! We are constantly trying out places and can add Ponti’s HH to the “Must Go” list. Duke’s (Greenlake) is always good! Do go up to Perche’No on the corner of Stone Way (across for Kidd Valley). They have HH 4-6 and just added 8-close. $4 Italian wines and a fab HH menu. We hit Palamino when DT for a concert; great HH food/drink/prices.
So yes, there’s a definite variety of decor/ambiance/view/etc. but when we want delicious down-home cheap eats/drinks it’s great to be able to walk down the street to our neighborhood “Cheers”!
BTW…We tried Ivar’s Salmonhouse just last week (based on reviews)…OUR review…beer is beer; the house wine so-so, Caesar Salad boring and the added shrimp (extra$) frozen blah; the acclaimed Ribs dry, and the Popcorn Scallops that my husband wanted to compare to others…well, they were little, hard, over-deepfried balls with something inside but one would never know what!!! We won’t go back!
So for value received, Kate’s REALLY scores!
AL’s is the best. Something about the music and sports bar feel of kate’s. Al’s music is low enough and they usually have some cool stuff playing. 2 pool tables. and a fine selection of drinkables. I used to go to kates when they were easy street but they have changed along with the addition of all those wide-screens
