On Wednesday, February 24, Hamilton music students will participate in Musicathon 2010–a 12-hour music marathon in return for pledges that benefit the 12 music ensembles at the school. The last event of the day, “The Young Musicians Concert” will take place at 7 p.m. in the Lincoln auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
Musicathon 2010 is just one of the ways to raise funds for Hamilton music students to participate in music festivals and competitions around the region. This month, the bands will take part in the Pacific Northwest Festival at the University of Washington, giving them the opportunity to perform onstage at Meany Hall. Students will also attend master classes taught by UW faculty, and the Hamilton music teachers will attend a seminar on the state of music education in public schools.
In March, Hamilton’s Symphonic Strings and full Symphonic Orchestra will attend the Western Washington University Orchestra Festival. Take a listen to this sample of the HIMS Symphonic Band.
