I believe SFD has a policy to throw serious resources at all Boat fires, as they can cause large $ damage, and quickly spread. That’s not saying it isn’t bad…
I happened to see one of the marina fires getting underway a few years ago – ‘quickly spread’ is a major understatement. I watched a sailboat next to the boat on fire burst into flame from the heat – one second, there was some dirty yellow smoke coming from the seam between the deck and hull; the next, the entire bow of the boat was engulfed in flame…
I responded to the Harborview Marina fire in Gig Harbor back in 2005, when 48 boats burned and sank. Several were live-aboards, so people essentially lost homes. In regards to the Gig Harbor incident, marinas with a cover are especially vulnerable.
