Two bits of from the crime blotter this week. Patrick writes:
A lurker was spotted Wednesday morning on Sunnyside Ave N, near the intersection of 38th. My wife was walking our two dogs at approximately 6.15 AM and noticed a man slip into the bushes. The dogs did, too – all six eyes kept a careful watch. The man did not make any threatening sounds or gestures, by my wife described it as fairly unnerving, particularly since one of the dogs was, ahem, occupied. That means we’re committed to keeping our neighborhood clean – but also means that my wife stood and waited for several minutes. During that time, the lurker hid out in the bushes – making it pretty unlikely he was a neighbor out for a morning walk or was just looking for the newspaper.
It’s still dark in the mornings – so make sure you tell family or friends when to expect you back, and consider bringing a flashlight and phone, or some four legged friends!
This next one is outside our bailiwick (Ballard), but just too much to pass up. Having had things stolen from their porch before, these folks installed a web cam. This past Tuesday, it documented a twenty-something girl in a dark hoodie snatching a package:
Package theft on 1/26 in Ballard from seattle vimeo user on Vimeo.
According to the report, UPS delivered the packages at 2:25 PM and the theft occurred at 2:43 PM, so the thief may have been trailing the delivery truck. The woman in the video appears to be around 5’1″ to 5’3″ tall and took off in what appears to be a blue ’85 – ’89 Mazda 323 hatchback.
At least she didn’t take the webcam.
For what it is worth, I live 3 houses away (on 38th between Eastern and Sunnyside) from where the “lurker” was reported and I can tell you there a man that lives close to the reported lurker site, that does have a tendency to hide when he sees people coming down the street. He is an unusual guy, but seems rather harmless.
I’d like to know what kind of webcam they have at that Ballard house. Great quality video capture– and I’m assuming it’s motion activated. Can you guys find that out?
The camera is a Sharx Security VIPcella SCNC2606.
oh no!!! hopefully she doesn’t wander into our fair neighborhood – i just started my new roots fruit and veggie delivery!
I also live on Sunnyside and agree with 38th@Sunnyside’s observation (that the man is unusual but seems harmless). In my experience he doesn’t always hide behind bushes, but he doesn’t ever say hi or anything.
