Over the past few months, we’ve seen visible progress at Hamilton that includes a nifty, new addition where there was once an old, unused parking lot littered with broken glass. Despite the noisy, truck-filled chaos on our street (it’s really not that bad), I’m fond of the new improvements and look forward to attending the open house in September. If you’ve ever gone to Hamilton to vote, you’ll remember how dark and dreary the auditorium felt. But the new improvements include wide open spaces and skylights to provide natural light. If you haven’t yet, go to the Hamilton photo gallery, located here, to see the work in progress. Down at the bottom of the page, you’ll find renderings of the new additions.
Meantime, read on for a construction update for work completed over the past month.
As of the end of November, 2009, the historic building, addition, and gymnasium are roofed in, and the skylight installation for the small gym is underway. Structural work for the renovation as a whole is nearing completion. Masonry veneer at the gym is underway, with the north façade complete. Installation of the interior finishes is underway in the historic building including drywall work, acoustic ceiling tile installation, and ceramic tile installation at the bathrooms.
This month, December, 2009, the metal roof at the new gym and lobby will be installed and the skylight installation for the historic gym will be completed. New sidewalks are being constructed and work will continue on the framing, plumbing, electrical, sheetrock and finishes.
