Hello, neighbors! I thought I’d introduce myself to you as a new Wallywriter, mostly covering our neighborhood schools, though there might be a few other little tidbits I’ll cover now and then.
Three years ago, when we began the kindergarten enrollment process for our son, my husband and I knew next to nothing about any of the schools in our neighborhood, despite having lived here for 10 years. As we settled into our school’s community, one of my volunteer efforts was to give new, prospective parents tours during their open house. I found that many parents were in the same boat I was two years earlier, and that they knew very little about each school in our reference area. So when Mr. Wallyhood cast his net for writers, I came forward with a request to cover our neighborhood schools—largely due to the new School Assignment Plan—but also to provide Wallyhood readers with full-length profiles and other useful information about each school during this time when boundaries are shifting and families are making future enrollment plans.
Given that we’re on the verge of a whole new School Assignment Plan, many community special interest groups have formed to work on specific issues. I’ll be sure to cover many, if not all, of these issues as they unfold; but feel free to use Wallyhood’s “Story Idea” button if there’s something specific you’d like me to cover. The idea here is not to divide our community, but to let everyone’s voice be heard.
Thanks for reading!
