It sounds like the homeless encampment Nickelsville will be moving from their temporary home at the Keystone Church in Wallingford. From their blog:
Since the Port of Seattle swept us in late September Nickelodeons have been sheltered by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church the first week and Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ for the last month. We’re enormously grateful for the kindness and generosity of these two churches for providing us with a place to stay together in an emergency.
Nickelsville will be moving this Thursday, Nov. 5, to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 124 21st Avenue. We’re thankful that Nickelsville will once again be able to provide up to 100 people a safe, organized alternative to living outdoors alone. The compassion and sense of social justice displayed by Pastor Jeffrey, the church’s deacons, and members of the congregation is commendable.
When Wallyhood readers first heard about this (Nickelsville coming to Wallingford), it set off quite a debate, with 30 comments flying back and forth, some praising the kindness and generosity of Wallingford residents and others fearing the worst of our new, temporary neighbors.
So, we’re curious: how did it go? Neighbors of the church, did the Nickelodeons, as they call themselves, cause any trouble?
My child attends the preschool there and there were absolutely no issues. I probably wouldn’t have even known they were there had we not been told.
Met a guy last week walking up 50th who asked for directions to Nickelsville. He was among the most polite, friendly people I’ve come across in the neighborhood.
No trouble at all.
Haven’t heard a thing. Which is great.
Let’s do it again! 😉
There was a definite increased police presence in the neighborhood at first, not sure if there is a correlation. I agree, never would have known unless told.
I live on 50th near the church and we haven’t had any problems at all. The Nickelsville residents have been good neighbors, as far as I could tell.
