Sounds like there was a power outage last night in parts of Wallingford (or, as the Seattle City Light web site prefers to refer to it, “the Fremont and Ballard neighborhoods”; thanks for the link Rob). Cause is unknown, but Chris W. notes that the My Ballard comments on the incident have some people reporting a loud bang just prior to the outage.
Forrest took advantage of the opportunity to check out the neighborhood after dark, so to speak:
When the power went out, I went out for a little stroll to check the extent of it all. I walked up to the nearby Aurora footbridge to get a good overview, and ran into neighbors with flashlights discussing taking a shower with the remaining hot water… From the bridge, lights could be seen to be out from the Aurora bridge (Bridge Way) on up to at least 45th, and on both the Fremont and Wallingford sides.
A further stroll determined that the outage zigged over to take out the 45th & Stone light, which had been set with flares by an officer who took up residence at Archie McPhee’s, pulling over various maniacs. Upon resumption of power, we learned from the internet of loud bangs just after midnite at 6th Ave NW & NW 45th in Wallingford and 28th NW & 60th in Ballard.
Electricity was out for just under two hours. Not long enough for the feared Apocalyptic zombie takeover, but just long enough to miss buzzing, flashing lights. The opportunity for a walk on this bright and clear night with a (nearly) full moon was most appreciated. I saw stars (even constellations!), something I definitely wouldn’t have done otherwise! Thanks, power outage, for prodding me out into the world.
The moonlight was so bright I took a while to realize my house wasn’t the only one without power. There had to a be a light somewhere. Oh yeah, the Goodwill had some back up lights shining too.
