I’m a Wallingford resident (I live in the house with all the ducks and chickens by the Ladybug mural) and I’m starting a new Family Dance Jam in Wallingford this coming Sunday, 11/8. It will be every 2nd Sunday of the month. Below is the information on this dance. And this dance is for families AND kids of ALL ages. Everyone is welcome.
I’m inspired to create this dance for several reasons. One reason is through my own interviewing of parents and what it’s like to be a parent as part of my own exploration as to whether I choose to have my own kids. Many times the wise saying has come up that “it takes a village to raise a family.” I started thinking that if I’m going to have kids, I’m only going to do it if I have a village….and then I asked myself, “well, how can I help create that right here, right now in my own neighborhood?” Dance immediately came to mind as dance is one of the most powerful and joyful ways to create a close community — to create our own Village right here in Seattle :).
I’m also looking for volunteers for set up and to help watch the kids during the dance. And I’m asking for donations of hula hoops, scarfs, crayons — things some kids would enjoy using during this dance time.
Our Dancing Village
2nd Sundays of each month — Starts November 8, 2009 – 4-5:30 p.m.
What: This is an Ecstatic Family Dance is for kids of all ages – families, kids, moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, sisters, brothers, friends – all people who love to play and dance and who desire to support and co-create health and happy families in our community! Whether you have kids or not, come dance!
We start with a fun ‘shaking’ warm-up and circle dances and then provide a space for freestyle dancing, hula hooping and ecstatic free-form movement along to kid-friendly adult music from around the world. We’ll end with a time of community sharing.
Created by the vision of having our Village to raise our healthy families, we start by coming together to dance, play and be our own Dancing Village. All are welcome. Come dance and play!
