Folks, the results are in and…WE WIN!
Apparently, the sorcerers over at Zillow have poured a cupboard of different variables, including Zillow Home Value Index, population density, Walk Score, and local crime data into their cauldron and have determined that the the Number Neighborhood in Seattle for Trick or Treating is…Wallingford!
Wallingford offers the most bang-for-the-knock on Halloween night. The quirky neighborhood full of old Craftsman bungalows is home to residents of all ages, from retirees and college students, to young families with children. Wallingford has easy access to many restaurants, grocery stores, and theaters along 45th street. The ‘hood scored in the top ten percent for both walkability and density.
What’s amazing is that they don’t know the half of it. For example, they probably didn’t even take into consideration the monstrous Halloween show that Pflip and his crew at 2506 42nd Street put on for the neighbors every year: haunted house, smoke bellowing spiders, creepy noises and, yes, probably a little candy, too. If you haven’t made it by, grab your kids and haul ’em over. It’s everything Halloween is supposed to be.
And there’s no need to wait until All Hallow’s Eve to get your trick on. Dozens of Wallingford businesses will be open for trick or treating during the day on Saturday, Oct 31st, 3 – 6 pm, click the map below for participating businesses.
Also putting on special shows:
- Work off the chunk at Fuerte Fitness, special exercise stations will be set up for kids to earn those sweets. Come evening time, it’s adult party, starting at 7 pm. Wear your costume and be ready for “Brutal Partynite at the Gym”.
- Wallingford Center will have face painters, crafts and prizes from 4 – 6 pm.
- The Thriller Dancers will be cruising around Wallingford, see the flier for approximate times / locations.

- OmCulture (2210 N. Pacific St) will be stretching it with a costuming pre-party starting at 8 pm and then dancing and frivolity with DJ Barbie-Danielle DeCarlo from 9 pm – 1 am. ($10)
- The Tom Bourg Nine (R&B / Swing / Classic Rock) will be playing at Murphy’s.
Really, is there a better holiday than Halloween?
I think it’s hysterical that we’re the #1 neighborhood – we get maybe three trick-or-treaters every year, and they live two doors down. Maybe it’s because we’re in East Wally – more UW students than kids?
We’ll be trick or treating 45th and heading to the Boys and Girls Club ourselves, so I guess we’re part of the problem…
OMG, we are so jealous!!!
We’re West Wally, and I think we got maybe four last year. Perhaps they all stay away from the fringes?
We’ve noticed that our trick-or-treaters ebb and flow in direct relation to the density and creativity of the decorations on our block.
I’m in the middle, a block south fo 45th, and we got like 2 last year… I wasn’t even going to bother this year.
We get tons of kids here in South Central, but that’s a direct reflection of how many live within a few blocks.
We live about Wallingford and 40th and usually get about 2 kids per year. It’s such a bummer. Bring it on! What a blast it would be to have loads of kids.
That said, we won’t be home this year. Gotta take the little muncher out.
Actually the Zillow article said that the number one trick or treating city in the nation was Seattle, which makes Wallingford the number one trick or treating neighbourhood in the US and therefore THE WORLD 🙂
We take our 5 year old out in Wallingford every year and she always gets and enormous haul…
