I’m surprised a kids consignment store would step in as competition for Kids on 45th right across the street. there are other neighborhoods with NO consignment stores. why compete when there’s such a well-loved one nearby?
I’m guessing they’re not thinking of Kids on 45th as competition as much as a good draw. If you’re headed to one place for kid’s clothes, it’s easy to hop across the street and check the other one while you’re at it. And with kid’s clothes, you always need more.
Same reason that Feathered Friends set up across the street from REI when they were on Capitol Hill and then moved to be across the street from REI when it moved down town.
This and the toy store? Finally, the Wallingford Center has realized that its demographic is young families. Too bad they had to drive a bunch of great stores out of business to realize it. Now all we need is a bookstore.
As a mom of young kids, I’m really excited for the opening of the new store. I used to shop at Kids on 45th often, but in the past two years the quality of their consigned clothes has gone WAY down. I can’t remember the last time I went in there and found anything other than old play clothes. It’s too bad, because I enjoyed shopping there.
Now I can once again support a local Wallingford business!
I second the comment about the bookstore. Personally, I love Kids on 45th. I am not saying I won’t check out the new place but I’ve always had a good experience at Kids and love that it’s laid back enough that I can let my daughter play at the back while I shop. The staff are super friendly and it totally lacks the pretentiousness that some of the other consignment shops have. I am pretty loyal to them and hope their business will not be adversely effected! What I’d really like to see in the nabe is an adult consignment shop…it’s been a long time since Gypsy trader moved…There’s defiantly a need!
Izilla’s Cap Hill store has an adjoining children’s book store. Maybe if we can get them to stay in Wallingford Center, they’ll do a book store here as well!
Paron’s Closet is great! The quality of the clothing is amazing and the prices are ridiculously low! They have a great mix of new and consignment clothing. The staff is so sweet and helpful, and I really don’t think they are competition – I think they just see the need for quality consignment in the neighborhood. Definitely check them out!
