The Grand Dame of Wallingford events is coming up this Sunday, October 4, the Wallingford Home Tour. Purchase a ticket at Stoneway Hardware, Tweedy and Popp or the Wallingford Neighborhood Office ($15 adults / kids under 12 free) and you’ll get a map of eight homes around the neighborhood that have been carefully selected for their architectural distinction and their owners’ sunny willingness to allow a parade of perfect strangers to tromp through their living rooms.
We don’t know which houses are being featured this year, with one exception. The Journal has a write-up on one home on the tour, that of Craig and Elizabeth Lindsay. According to the story, Craig was inspired to purchase and remodel a home in Wallingford after taking the Home Tour himself:
“The tour gave me a better sense of the architecture of the neighborhood and cemented the Wallingford area for me as the place where I wanted to live,” said Craig.
After years of paintstaking remodel efforts (emphasis on the pain), Craig and his bride Lindsay were ready to show off their home, and approached the neighborhood office.
“They said they’d love to have us on the tour,” he said. “Maybe someone will come to our home now and be inspired like I was. I’d love to have someone buy a home here and remodel it to help rejuvenate the neighborhood.”
