(This report is submitted by our Lower Wallingford Correspondent, Chris Witwer. Note, though, that this post was written on Saturday, prior to the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk’s visit to Wallingford, but our lazy editor didn’t notice it until Sunday, after the march had gone through, but still has good info about the event for those who caught it).
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is an annual 60 mile walk designed to raise funds and heighten awareness for breast cancer. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate survivors, victims, care providers, and familes who’ve been affected by the disease.
The Seattle area 3-Day walk is happening now, and will visit Wallingford on Sunday morning. I haven’t been able to get my hands on a map — and the 3-Day folks have an external link policy that forbids us from posting the Seattle page here, but we think we can quote them:
After a short bus ride, the final day of our journey will showcase many major Seattle landmarks, including Green Lake Park, downtown Wallingford and Gas Works Park. On the way to lunch we will pass by the quaint Portage Bay marina and walk through one of the most historic neighborhoods in Seattle. Lunch will be at a gorgeous park with plenty of shade. The route will travel through the fun, eclectic neighborhood of Capitol Hill before heading downtown. We will pass the famous Pike Place market and walk down the waterfront as we make our way to the Seattle Center for a celebratory Closing Ceremony.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day folks also left a cute little pink flyer outside our home on Wallingford Avenue that says, “We’ll be walking down this street at Sunday, Sept 13th 8am-11am.”
The flyer encourages Wallingford Ave residents to show support for walkers by displaying signs (think pink!), cheering from the sidewalks, refreshing walkers by spraying them with squirters or hoses, playing music, etc.
It’s hard to say for sure whether Wallingford Avenue and/or 45th street will be closed tomorrow morning, but we think it’s a good bet to expect some traffic interruption in the area.
