Every couple of weeks, we thank the local businesses that have offered their support to Wallyhood:
Find A Dog Walker: Despite it’s name, this matchmaking service won’t just help you find someone to keep Fido’s legs stretched and healthy, they also help find pet sitters and the like. It’s a nation-wide service, but founded and run out of our own ‘hood.
Fuerte Fitness: This is a both a small gym and personal training studio, right off the corner of 45th and Stone Way. So convenient, you have no excuse not to go!
Adriana writes “Taking breaks are better for your mind and your work! I had to share about my favorite little run in Wallingford. It is only about 2.7 mile quite and beautiful and takes about 25 minutes. I love the view of downtown Seattle is amazing going south on Wallingford Ave. North it helps you to appreciate the beautiful city we live in! Oh, and if you are lucky, you might find some supper yummy apricots ready to be eaten on down Burke Ave. N as well. I also love the houses along Woodland Park Ave. N., they have so much character and the trees are cut perfect for your run along the side walk.
Hamstring stretch for afterwards, because these muscles get tight even when you just sit. Do this for 30sec on each leg and your back will thank you!” [ed note: she’s right, they will]
Archie McPhee: The only store that could get away with displacing a liquor store and leave people happy about it (albeit a bit parched), Archie McPhee is a weirdo wonderland. Case in point: our friend Lynn came down 45th St at us the other day waving a yodeling pickle. One can’t begin to fathom.
The Folkstore: Whether you’re looking for a sheet music or an instrument to play it on, The Folkstore is the place to go (unless the instrument you seek is a yodeling pickle, in which case, seek elsewhere). Stuart Herrick is a musician and music-lover first, and that’s the kind of guy you want helping you buy your equipment. Stop on in, 5210 Roosevelt Way NE.
Cooper Jacobs: Our newest sponsor, Courtney Cooper and her husband Morgan run this small real estate brokerage with a focus on properties in our area. The property next to Wallingford Center they have for sale (4333 Wallingford Ave) is still for sale, and they’ll be holding an open house this Saturday, 8/22 from 10 – 2 pm and Sunday 8/23 from 10 – 5 pm. Stop on by, even if you’re just a lookie-loo. They’re friendly.
Knowing that there are businesses that are willing to support us, even as “big media” starts moving in across from us, is re-assuring.
That, and all the fan mail we get.
The yodeling pickle is a big hit in the 2 year old crowd. (in case you were looking for a gift to surely annoy any parent!)
