We’d like to draw your attention to a recent post in the the Wallyhood Forums. Elaine writes:
I live in Wallingford and am volunteering for an organisation called Feet First. Currently I am working on an event called PARKing Day which is all about taking a car parking spot and turning it into a mini park for the day for people to enjoy.
The concept is about getting people to think about the use of urban space and the dominance of the car etc etc. Its fun and a great way to get kids involved in thinking about active transport etc.
If anyone is keen to get involved in this event or set something up then give me a shout. [email protected] [ed note: she actually wrote “feetfist.info”, but, while the image of fisted feet are amusing to us, we decided to correct it to assure delivery]
Cheers, Elaine
We’ve been fans of Park(ing) day since we first read about it some years ago in Boing Boing or Inhabitat or some similar blog back when we had time to read blogs for fun (read: before Baby Z). Originally started as a political prank by the San Francisco arts group Rebar, it’s since flourished into a nationwide happening. We’d love to see it spread to Wallingford. You should contact Elaine and make it happen.
