Harley answers queries on the QFC:
Sources tell us at Wallyhood that the big QFC remodel we covered back in March (here and here) is officially slated to start August 8. We figured something was up when we saw the rent-a-command-center hiding out in the parking lot (right).
We reached out to Kristin Mass, the QFC Public Affairs Director, with a few questions. We were particularly interested in impact to the neighborhood. With regards to the location of the construction, Kristin assured us that “…construction will primarily be on our land with the exception of the improvements to the sidewalks. Safety will be a top priority for our customers and associates entering and exiting the store and property.” We also asked Kristin about parking impact and since there is no on site parking for the workers, we might expect to see a bit more parking congestion in the area.
The project is slated to end on in early 2010.
Also, Kristin happily informed us that Teresa Dean of Mi Piace Espresso will be joining the Wallingford QFC team. No word on how neighborhood dogs will fare with loss of Teresa’s dog treat dispensary, but fans of Teresa can rejoice that QFC found a spot for her.
And, do not panic when the iconic WALLINGFORD sign comes down – it is merely being put aside for safe keeping during the remodel and will return when the project is done
Will it be open during construction?
Any word on the “sidewalk improvements” taking out any trees or the water fountain? More trees usually = better, and while the water fountain is non-functional, I like the little “dog bowl” basin at the bottom (and wished it worked!)
I’m hoping that part of this remodel will include better freezers. I’m not sure if it’s old equipment or what, but everything in their freezers is completely freezer burnt in my experience. Has anyone else noticed this?
The store will be open throughout construction according to QFC.
No word on the freezers or the specifics of the sidewalk improvements.
