Two opportunities for movie watching in Wallingford this weekend. Murphy’s, we’re told, has started showing movies on their outdoor patio. Saturday will be the Big Lebowski. We don’t know what time it starts, and we’re feeling a bit lazy, but the phone number is 206.634.2110.
And then, of course, we have Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies from 7:00 – 9:30 pm (tonight, Friday, natch). This week, it’s all about intellectural property:
Freedom of Expression: Resistance & Repression in the Age of Intellectual Property
w/ Steven Reisler, Chair of the Seattle Chapter of the National Lawyers GuildIn 1998, university professor Kembrew McLeod (Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Iowa) trademarked the phrase “freedom of expression” – a startling comment on the way that intellectual property law restricts creativity and expression of ideas. This provocative and amusing documentary explores the battles being waged in courts, classrooms, museums, film studios, and the Internet over control of our cultural commons. “This smartly-made and seriously funny documentary provides an aerial view of the battleground that is today’s copyright landscape. Illustrating the comments of many well-known critics of runaway copyright & trademark law with apt audiovisual examples, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION succeeds as an engaging and concrete presentation.” – Peter Jaszi, Professor of Law, Washington College of Law.
Shown at the Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Place N.
If you need a Lebowski dose this weekend, I recommend Sunday night instead:

I think Murphy’s movies are Thursdays and Saturdays at 9pm.
Does anyone know if Freedom of Expression can be rented? And where? I’d love to see it!
Doug’s right – Murphy’s schedule says that movies start at 9pm. In reality, they started a bit later because it wasn’t really dark enough right at 9pm. Not a huge turnout for the movie, but I liked it because you get to watch a movie outside, but you can still sit in a chair at a table, order food, drink a beer, etc. It was fun and it’s nice to have something like this in the neighborhood.
