Your chance to ooh and aah at the gardens of your neighbors is this Sunday at the annual Wallingford Garden Tour. It’s a self-guided stroll through some of the most beautiful and unusual gardens in Wallingford. The Journal describes it all in loving detail, which we will shamelessly crib here:
Spend the day wandering through passageways that lead to secret gardens and pleasant surprises. Take a look at a collection of over 140 cacti, hundreds of succulents and dozens of vines. Envision the possibilities of transforming your lawn into a sustainable vegetable or berry garden. Mix it up a bit by combining French styles with Japanese.
[…] Saffron Igo admits that she stands on the shoulders of giants when it comes to her garden. On the tour with previous owners, the private garden of her charming 1904 farmhouse is enclosed by a large fence, which protects it from the noise of the city. Visitors walk through gorgeous heavy copper gates with Japanese form to a garden that hints of French provincial. The combination is striking, as are the lovely purple, green and apricot hues Igo has chosen to fill the space.“I am changing my color scheme to be more purples and oranges, with lighter greens to make it look happier,” says Igo, adding that she is cultivating interest with patterned foliage.
Tickets are $15 and are available at Tweedy and Popp, the Wallingford Neighborhood Office as well as several local nurseries (full list of ticket sellers here).
We advise you to go, if only because it will afford you the opportunity to visit the garden of long-time Wallingford troublemaker Lynn Freeman, who’s garden’s beauty will be augmented by the sonic soundscape of DJ Shapeshifter.
