You live somewhere for 16 years and learn something new about it every day. Here’s a tip that just came in from Eunice:
Wallyhood – I don’t think you’ve covered Pangaea Organic coffee roasters. We discovered them while eating at Sutra. Apparently they roast fair trade organic coffee for Sutra and then walk it over in glass jars – about as sustainable as you can get. They roast coffee twice a week and deliver FOR FREE to 98103 addresses. That means for about the normal price of a pound of coffee you can have fresh roasted, fair trade organic coffee show up on your doorstep. We’ve been using them for a few months now and it is great. Sometimes we even get the coffee the same day as it gets roasted! Rick who runs the place is super nice and the coffee is great.
ok i just double checked the website and you can actually get free delivery to a bunch of other zip codes:
“First of all you can find us in your kitchen when you order online. Coffee is like bread: the fresher the better. We ship via priority mail so that you’ll have your coffee in two or three days. And if we are neighbors you are in luck. You will get your coffee almost right out of our roaster. Simply select the free next day delivery option that appears when you specify a shipping address within any of the following Seattle zip codes: 98103, 98105, 98107, 98115, 98117. Let us know if there are any tricks to making the drop. Beware of dog, knock three times, please do not feed the alligators, that sort of thing.”
Walking over fresh roasted coffee in glass jar to another local business. Oh, it makes our locavoracious heart sing! (Please, nobody shatter our idyll by reminding us that the beans are grown in South America.)
Thanks, Eunice, for the compliments. Several new customers in the last couple of days all mentioned this piece on wallyhood.org. And thanks Jordan & Michelle for the hyper-local journalism & blog.
Cheers,
Rick at Pangaea
