From club noise to car noise, Wallyhood is your one stop shop for noise news. This comes fresh from the WSDOT:
Update on ceiling treatment test planned on I-5 Ship Canal Bridge next year
There are multiple sources of traffic noise entering neighborhoods around the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge. This makes addressing noise in this area a unique challenge. Consequently, we are evaluating new and innovative noise reduction options that could be used to reduce traffic noise from the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge.
In 2010, we plan to install a test section of noise-absorptive panels on the outer edges of the ceiling above the I-5 express lanes on the south concrete approach. The ceiling panels are designed to absorb and block some of the reflected noise from vehicles that bounces off of the upper deck (the ceiling above the express lanes) and back into the neighborhoods.
This test will help us better understand how the material performs to reduce reflected traffic noise for neighbors and businesses. Since this is the first time that the material has been used for this purpose, we will monitor the test section for at least one year to evaluate the material’s durability and effectiveness in this environment.
